    YTHDF2 (YTH Domain Family, Member 2 (YTHDF2))

    Alternative Name

    YTHDF2

    Background

YTHDF2 is a member of the YTH-domain containing (YT521-B homology) superfamily which also contains YTHDF1 and YTHDF3. These proteins share a conserved C-terminal YTH domain that specifically interacts with N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modified RNA. The m6A modification is present at internal sites of mRNAs and some non-coding RNAs and plays an important role in mRNA splicing, processing, and stability. YTHDF2 binding appears to promote mRNA degradation, but has minimal effect on translation efficiency. [adapted from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) www.uniprot.org/uniprot/Q9Y5A9].
